NREVSD Board of Education to place levy on May ballot

On Saturday, January 17, the NREVSD Board of Education took the first step toward placing a levy on the May 5, 2026 ballot.

The vote was the first of three steps required before the issue is presented to voters.

Should the board receive approval from the county, the levy will be officially approved at the January 26, 2026 board meeting.

What will be on the May ballot?

After listening to community feedback both in-person and online, the district has made changes to better align with community needs.

The levy proposal will be an 8-mill property tax levy that will be capped at five years in length. It is NOT a permanent levy or an income tax. The proposed levy would generate $4.4 million in annual revenue for the district.

Financial Outlook

The financial future remains critically important to the entire district. As it stands, we have projected a deficit of just over $538,000 in Fiscal Year 2029, which balloons to over $5.5 million in 2030.

The top chart on the left shows the district's cash balance. The green line represents the cash balance with the levy while the red line shows the deficit the district is projected to face without additional revenue.

The bottom chart shows the district's year-over-year spending. Even with the levy, NREVSD will continue to carefully monitor financial expenditures to stave off future deficits.
